Let go of the perception (you think) others have of you
falseAs the title already hints, most of the time we do guesswork on what others might think of us. Because even those that tend to actually act harmful towards us might just come from a place of envy (in turn meaning they want to be you, which is even a compliment). We never actually know what others think of us. And we shouldn’t care.
This is your life. You only have this one chance to be fulfilled, happy and the best version of yourself. Why would you want that influenced by others? More importantly, who are the others to judge you? Why is their opinion of you more valuable than your own?
As long as we’re not purposely harming others, we don’t owe others an explanation why we do what we do, dress the way we dress, eat what we eat and choose what we choose. It’s none of their business.
Judgmental people will always be there. Acting confident is easy until that one person on the street visually judges your outfit for no reason. But before you let that get to you, ask yourself if this type of behavior is actually allowed to affect you. It doesn’t matter why they judged you, the important part is detaching from this. You’re still you, nothing can happen to you.
Something I’d like to add here is that this mindset that the perception of others matters seems to be strengthened by this type of content on TikTok where people react to hate comments and try to explain what they did. They are getting defensive, but if they were truly detached from the negative opinions of others they could stop trying to explain things to people that just spread negativity and will certainly not care to listen to that explanation anyways. (There’s a difference between constructive criticism and hate.)
