How to Love Yourself when you are dealing with Mental Health Issues
https://ift.tt/NVJfyE8Self-Love starts with understanding yourself better. Putting yourself into context. Why are you the way you are? Why do you worry and overthink? Why do you have trouble setting boundaries? Why do you want to people-please? Why are you so critical of yourself?
And don't just accept the surface reason ... dig deeper.
You are the way you are for a reason. NOT because you are lazy, or stupid, or weak, or scared ... your brain was programmed in childhood for the greatest chances of survival in the environment you were in.
It's all evolution. We evolved to fit in. To belong. To crave approval from others because that made us feel like we belonged. We were designed to measure how safe we are by how loved we feel.
Your 'issues' that you hate so much about yourself are there because your brain thought they would give you the greatest chance of staying in your tribe ... of surviving. Because, in the stone age, if your tribe kicked you out, you were dead. And so your evolutionary development designed a brain that would put belonging to the tribe above everything else ... it would make you strive to please and appease and achieve and help and do everything in your power to make everyone else happy no matter how much that harmed you.
And when ... as adults ... we blame ourselves for not being able to set boundaries, we are completely ignoring the fact that 'setting boundaries' was unsafe as children. And that programming is still deeply ingrained in your subconscious.
To my knowledge only when you use some form of hypnotherapy or suggestive therapy can you reach the subconscious. You definitely cannot willpower your way into rewiring your survival mechanisms.
I use different modalities to work with both the conscious and the subconscious mind and gently and lovingly create self-love through reparenting the inner child. There are many amazing healers and therapists and courses out there. Find yours. Dig deeper. Dig beyond the surface. YOU are the way you are for a reason ... a good one ... and you cannot force or will your survival mechanisms away. You have to make them feel safe so they can be rewired and stop acting up.
