https://ift.tt/iHe37JvI think one of the biggest challenges for our mental health is our harsh, critical self talk.
We are the only person who knows everything about us and who is going to be present in every moment of our life, yet many of us make our time here on earth significantly more difficult than it has to be by being our own inner bully. We are thought that we should aim for perfection and that we are not good enough how we are. So in a constant race of self improvement we learn to recent everything that is not yet perfect within us. We constantly feel like a failure because of our own completely unrealistic expectations that we hold toward ourselves. Especially when we are going through a rough phase where we feel a lot of anxiety this can become a dangerous circle as we judge ourselves even more for not being in the best space mentally.
What I found to be extremely effective is the practice of compassion for ourselves.
I'm not speaking about pity ourselves, that doesn't help you. More acknowledging that currently you are not feeling good and therefore it's difficult for you right now to live up to your expectations. You are human. You are not a machine that always works perfectly. That is ok. You just can't always be on top. I know we all would want that but I don't know anyone who is. We all should learn to be patient with ourselves, to forgive ourselves mistakes and our flaws that we all have. Even right now. How would it feel for you if you'd decide just for one moment that you forgive yourself for everything that didn't went as planed in your life. What I found very helpful in those phases is also to praise myself for everything I do. Even if I just put in 1 hour of work, that was already a little success.
