2. My Self Love journey… : stressLess-life
My Self Love journey…
I have been through a lot. From very dark times in my life to the point where I hit rock bottom in the eventual bounce back to where I am today. I wanna share my story about my struggle for self love to hopefully inspire those out there who need it. I was a pretty happy kid when I was in elementary. Two loving parents, some great friends. back then all seemed pretty well. Until Covid happened. When Covid happened lockdown occurred and I had to stay home all of my sixth grade year because my grandmother was living with me and she had dementia and we couldn’t risk her getting sick. Frankly, I don’t think I understood back then how dangerous it was. I was just happy we got off of school. I started attending class again when I was in seventh grade, however a lot changed. A lot of people in my class we’re very different. They looked at me differently. They wouldn’t talk to me and the worst part was the racial harassment. I didn’t understand back then that I was different and not the same. I was the only minority in my whole middle school and high school. But during seventh grade. My father fell sick with Covid and it felt terrible. I sat there looking at my father fighting for his life not sure if he’d come home or not. The doctors weren’t optimistic about it. And while he was in the hospital, my grandmother contracted it, and she would end up passing away. My father threw all odds was able to make it home but at the time he was a shadow of his formal self. He was super frail and had to come home with oxygen. I felt ashamed that I couldn’t do anything. Eighth grade would come along. My mother would get diagnosed with cancer and the bigotry would continue. All this would last making my mental health extremely bad to the point where it was almost nonexistent I hated everything about myself. I hated myself for my race, for the way I talked, and for the way I cared. That is until one faithful night in 10th grade. I was up alone contemplating my own life that I came to a stanch realization. Why do I care? Why do I care what people think of who I am and what I should be. My life is what I should shape it to be. My life is mine, not my peers and certainly not societies. That night it felt like I broke these chains of slavery that that kept my heart and the true self in shackles. After that realization, I started to live my life with the way I saw fit for myself because I’m not a puppet for society to pull my strings. I am my own person, with my own feelings, with my own beliefs, and my own personality. I do not need to conform to no one. It is now 12th grade and I can successfully say that my soul and my spirit is finally free and that the wings that I needed I finally sprouted. The world will not always be friendly to you, but what matters most is how you bring joy from life.
