Do you know why "Real Reason Relationships Hurt So Much?"
I just came across this beautiful discourse by Acharya Prashant (from a talk at IIT Bombay) that completely reformulated my view of relationships, companionship, breakups, and the pain of feeling betrayed by others.
In reality most of that pain doesn’t actually come from the other person it comes from our own lack of internal focus and over-attachment to temporary companions. Instead of trying to figure everyone else out, we’re invited to treat our own mind like a personal laboratory: quietly inquiring our motives, desires, and projections before judging anyone else’s intentions. What really stuck with me is the reminder that self-deception is a far bigger threat than being decepted by others. We very often ignore the reality and see what we want to see instead. The talk ends with a gentle nudge toward living an inquisitive lifestyle always turning inward first.
It feels like the deepest form of self-love: knowing yourself so well that relationships aren't a source of constant pain or validation anymore.
