Underrated Power of Self-Love. How It Transformed My Life

It's funny, you know, how life unfolds. I used to be clueless about how self-love, or rather the lack of it, can dramatically shape our lives. Let me share a bit about my journey and how practicing self-love led to immeasurable changes in every facet of my life. Maybe it helps you too...?

Growing up, I was fed the narrative that growth comes through pain and punishment (including self-punishment). However, I've since discovered, through evidence-based therapy practices (I did it on my own), that the reality is the exact opposite. What we truly need to foster growth is a dose of loving kindness towards ourselves. It's about giving your inner child the love they missed out on during their formative years. The love they were denied when they first experienced rejection. We can resolve a bunch of personal mental health issues only through practicing this loving-kindness.

Let me share an observation: I used to have this habit of obsessively popping every single pimple on my face, including the invisible ones. It was a compulsion I couldn't resist. Upon reflection and healing, I realized it was a form of self-aggression, a manifestation of low self-esteem and lack of self-love.

But the magic began when I built a strong core and inner support through self-love. Suddenly, the people around me became more supportive just because I started supporting myself first. It was as though the love I was projecting inward was being reflected back at me by the world. As I started loving myself, I started to feel more love from others and support.

I even met my husband during this period, the first person I was drawn to because of his kind treatment and love for me - a stark contrast to my exes who triggered pain in me (and that's how I used to choose partners and getting into toxic relationships in the past).

The TL;DR. The universe seemed to turn in my favor and things started falling into place like never before. My life became so much better in every imaginable way after embracing self-love. So, if you take anything from my story, let it be this: Love yourself, and watch as the world loves you back. And I am not talking about positive affirmations. I'd call it profound self-guided therapy that I came across after hitting the bottom of my life. Just my personal opinion, self-love is so underrated and it could heal and improve so many aspects of our lives. I also have a couple of books and documentaries to recommend on that - if interested.
