https://ift.tt/wP7Waf2Fear of rejection is one of the biggest obstacles preventing us from living the life we want. Since we don't want to be rejected, we avoid taking actions that could improve our situation.
Have you had that experience when you are rejected by someone, you just wish you could disappear from the world? Your first instinct is to get rid of that person so they will never be able to see you or find you again. You deleted or blocked their contacts as if that was the only way that you could protect yourself from being hurt. In reality, it is more likely that hurt will follow us the more we flee. Only by confronting it will we be able to overcome it. Next time you are rejected by someone, don't run away from it. Think about it for a moment. Sit with your hurt. Look inwards. Then ask yourself - "Why am I so affected by others' reactions or approval?"
Our fear of rejection or inability to handle it is often a result of low self-worth. We rely on other people's validation and attention to fill the void in our hearts. Rejection is the opposite of validation. When you are hurt by rejection, you are actually being reminded to build your self-worth.
Having clarity about who we are and what we value will allow us to handle rejection more gracefully, and understand it is not personal. There's more to rejection than the rejection itself, it's how we interpret it. When people have a high sense of self-worth or confidence, they know rejection is simply a mismatch. It's not their fault, and they didn't do anything wrong. It's also possible that the people who rejected us weren't ready for this. Maybe it's a matter of timing.
The scarcity mindset can also contribute to the pain of rejection. It would cause more pain and regret when we were rejected and missed out on a rare opportunity if we felt something or someone was too precious to us. It is critical to shift from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. There is no way of knowing what the future holds. Once you become a stronger and better version of yourself, the opportunity you missed today will return in a different form. It is just something you cannot see at the moment. However, you must trust and have faith.
Below are the strategies that you could start using today to heal from rejection and bounce back stronger:
Embrace courage:
Being rejected means you at least tried. Regardless of the outcome, acknowledge that you took that action. At that time, you showed courage by facing uncertainty and going forward anyway. In any case, you have no regrets now, even if you didn't get what you wanted.
Practice gratitude:
Be grateful for the rejection. It happens for a reason. In retrospect, rejection is often a blessing in disguise. Eventually, you'll realize you're in a better place because of it. Your rejection is not about you, it's about the misalignment between you and the other party. Your rejection makes way for better things in your life that align with you.
